So, here’s the thing…

I’ve always dabbled in writing. No, really– ever since I could put a sentence on paper. My first letters to my great grandmother were no less than fifty percent fiction, though at eight years old, it’s hard to draw a very clear line of distinction.

Fast forward, many, many years. In the late 1990’s I ran across this event called National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, for short. The challenge is to write 50,000 words in the month of November. I participated once, learned that writer’s block is a real thing, that writing a set number of words a day is grueling, and that many other writers are so much better than I am.

It was a long time, before I was able to participate again. Life gets in the way. Last year, I took it up, one more time. I’m nearly 105,000 words into that story, now. I’m still writing according to NaNoWriMo rules, which include little to no editing, in the first draft.

Everything in The Business of the Living (my working title) is put down as it comes out of my head. I tried to keep typos and punctuation mistakes to a minimum, because they irritate me, but I’m sure some are still lurking, waiting to be edited out. Now, if I can figure out where to put it, I’ll give you a little bit of it. I’m new to the blogging website thing.
